The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc comprise three master fiddle players from three different and very distinctive Nordic cultures: Kevin Henderson (Fiddler’s Bid, Boys of the Lough, and Session A9) hails from Shetland; Olav Luksengard Mjelva is an award winning fiddle player from Norway, and Anders Hall is an acclaimed exponent of the Swedish fiddle tradition. Combined as The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc they skilfully weave the many components of their three musical cultures and traditions together in a hugely atmospheric and dynamic fashion, all laced through with liberal helpings of humour for good measure. We said hello to new colleagues and customers and wished others well on their adventures and projects elsewhere, we had to deal with extreme weather, we expanded twice, and we dealt with a whole lot of other challenges. For me, personally, 2018 was always going to be challenging, as it was the year in which my maternity leave came to an end and I had to face reality again. Luckily, I knew my son could come with me during daytime, and with our […]

The Hub’s 2018

So, we did it! We opened our coffee shop – The Café Hub – on Small Business Saturday 1st December 2018. Having picked up the keys only 2 days earlier we had our work cut out for us. Luckily, we could count on a fantastic team who worked extra hours and of course friends and family looking after our children, while we would clean, move furniture, write menus, and practise our coffee making skills. On Saturday morning 10am, we opened up. On display were our wonderful cakes and brownies, fresh croissants, and the air was filled with the smell of […]
