About us

Who we are

The Language Hub is a social enterprise which operates as a Community Interest Company for the local community in Glasgow. Our mission is to provide innovative and creative learning and work opportunities that promote and enable cultural exchange between individuals and communities.

We offer innovative, exciting and affordable language classes and events for children and adults from various language backgrounds starting at the age of six months while creating sustainable and valued employment opportunities for teachers at the same time. We want to create an overall beneficial experience for everyone involved.

All our teachers are native speakers with experiences and qualifications in linguistics and/or education in order to provide the high quality learning experience our learners deserve. To ensure best results further, our classes comprise of no more than eight children or ten adults. Small classes and groups enable us to support individual needs in detail.

As the first language school in Glasgow based on the above model of teaching and learning while offering language and cultural learning for all ages and many different languages under one roof, we are happy to see some more newly established language providers in the city follow suit in a similar manner. It is an encouraging development which reaches out to more and more people which we welcome.

We also run an English and foreign language children’s and adults’ lending library on site. Check out our coffee shop with play and reading corners for your little ones.

Michèle Gordon, Director

Michèle grew up in Germany with her Scottish father and German mother — the best combination ever (according to her parents). She holds a degree in history, English, German as a foreign language, and adult education from the University of Trier, Germany.

Her bilingual upbringing shaped her career path in language teaching and she has taught at primary and secondary schools, and in several adult education institutions in Germany and Australia. She now has two bilingual children of her own. Her background inspired Michèle to set up the Hub in 2011 as she aimed to make language learning and bilingual support more accessible to children in Glasgow.

Michèle looks after the Hub’s children’s language learning services, the bilingual support programme, the English reading and learning programme, and the multilingual library for children and adults.

Access to a second language—either in the home, or in the classroom—is a special gift that will bring benefits throughout an individual’s life.
