About

Who we are

The Language Hub is a social enterprise which operates as a Community Interest Company for the local community in Glasgow. Our mission is to provide innovative and creative learning and work opportunities that promote interculturalism and enable cultural exchange for individuals and communities.

We offer innovative, exciting and affordable language classes and events for children and adults from various language backgrounds starting at the age of six months while creating sustainable and valued employment opportunities for teachers at the same time. We want to create an overall beneficial experience for everyone involved.

All our teachers are native speakers with experiences and qualifications in linguistics and/or education in order to provide the high quality learning experience our learners deserve. To ensure best results further, our classes comprise of no more than eight children or ten adults. Small classes and groups enable us to support individual needs in detail.

As the first language school in Glasgow based on the above model of teaching and learning while offering language and cultural learning for all ages and many different languages under one roof, we are happy to see some more newly established language providers in the city follow suit in a similar manner. It is an encouraging development which reaches out to more and more people which we welcome.

We run an English and foreign language children’s bookshop stocked with new and preloved books on site. Also check out our coffee shops with play and reading corners for your little ones.

The team

Michèle Gordon (director)

Michele Gordon | The Language Hub, Glasgow

Michèle grew up in Germany with her Scottish father and German mother — the best combination ever … at least according to her parents. She holds a degree in History, English, German as a Foreign Language, and Adult Education from the University of Trier, Germany.

Her bilingual upbringing shaped her career path in language teaching and she has taught at primary and secondary schools, and in several adult education institutions in Germany and Australia. She now has two bilingual children of her own. Her background finally inspired Michèle to set up the hub in 2011 as she aimed to make language learning and bilingual support more accessible to children in Glasgow.

Michèle looks after the hub’s children’s language learning services, the bilingual support programme, the English reading and learning programme, and the bookshop.

Access to a second language—either in the home, or in the classroom—is a special gift that will bring benefits throughout an individual’s life.

A fully-qualified teacher, Andrea’s career began in 2004 when she taught in a language school in Italy while also studying for a degree in Literature and Linguistics at the University of Bologna. She holds an MSc in Translation and Interpreting from Heriot-Watt University, and has just finished her Post-Graduate Diploma in Education from the Open University.

Andrea joined the hub as a partner in 2016 and oversees the hub’s adult learning programme, cultural events, and training workshops.

Anyone can learn a language… We have all done it with our mother tongue.
